Guide To Utility Services For Your New Apartment
Whilst electricity, gas, & water are essential utility services, they are far from free. After all, somebody needs to pay for the electricity powering your espresso machine (and your grinder and roaster if you’re like me). In our user pays society, the party responsible for paying for these is likely to be whoever is living in the apartment.
The Tenants Union of Victoria (http://www.tuv.org.au/) has provided us with some guidelines on who is responsible for what when it comes to paying for utility services, as well as how to go about getting things turned on. Most of these considerations should be defined in your lease agreement, but you may have to do some of the footwork yourself.
